Edison School District Is Planning To Host Prom This Year

School administrators are putting together a plan to ensure seniors get to enjoy prom this year.

EDISON, NJ — Edison Public Schools is working hard to make prom happen.

After the pandemic disrupted plans last year, school administrators are putting together a plan to ensure students get to enjoy prom in 2021.

At the recently held Board of Education meeting, school Superintendent Bernard Bragen said he was working with the administrators of Edison High School and JP Stevens High School “to pull off an event.”

"Right now, I believe 250 is the capacity for indoor, where they allow people to dance and things like that," said Bragen.

“We want to give the seniors an opportunity to celebrate something. It's a tough year for seniors. We can give them some type of send-off where they get to enjoy themselves in a safe way.”

Bragen said the administrators at both high schools are “working behind the scenes” to make prom happen in a safe manner. But Gov. Phil Murphy’s indoor gathering parameters will ultimately decide how large the gathering will be, said Bragen.

When asked by a BOE member if seniors from last year would get a chance at 'redoing’ prom this year, Bragen said the district hasn’t “considered” the possibility, but "will definitely look into that.”
