Election Day 2019: Everything Edison, Metuchen Needs To Know

EDISON, NJ — After a long campaign season, Election Day 2019 is finally here in Edison and Metuchen. There are a number of races on the ballot in both towns this November, including the school boards and town councils.
Here is everything you need to know about Election Day in your town:
What will be on my ballot in Edison?
Ten candidates are running for three open three-year terms on the Edison Board of Education. Those elected to the board will be tasked with hiring a new permanent superintendent, and trying to address the overcrowding crisis in the district.

Four Democrats and four Republicans are running for the four open seats on the Edison Township committee. Ajay Patil, Joseph Coyle, Richard Brescher, Joyce Ship-Freeman are running as Democrats, while Cathleen Lynch Kilic, Gerald Shine, Maria Orchid and Wayne Mascola are on the Republican ticket.
There is no local public question this year.

What will be on my ballot in Metuchen?
All of the races in Metuchen are uncontested, and all candidates are incumbents. Barring any write-in candidates winning, which would be unusual, the candidates on the ballot will be elected: Mayor Jonathan Busch, Borough Council Members Linda Koskoski, Dorothy Rasmussen, and Daniel Hirsch, and School Board members Eric Suss, Jonathan Lifton, and Alicia Sneddon Killean.
Metuchen also has a public question on the ballot, asking to allocate additional funds for a mental health program in the school district. The question reads:
Resolved that there shall be raised an additional $700,000.00 for General Funds in the 2019-2020 School Year. These taxes will be used exclusively to provide a district
wide Mental Health/Emotional support program, including appropriate staff and services, intervention, professional development, benefits and related costs. Approval of these taxes will result in a permanent increase in the district's tax levy. These proposed additional expenditures are in addition to those necessary to achieve the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.

What's on the ballot in both towns?
Residents will also vote on their two representatives in the New Jersey State Assembly. Robert Bengivenga, Jr. and Jeffrey Brown are running on the Republican side, and Nancy Pinkin and Robert Karabinchak are running on the Democratic side for the 18th District seat.
The Senate seat is not up for re-election this year.
There is a race for Sheriff: Mildred Scott, a Democrat, and Anthony Gallo, a Republican, are vying for the office.
Three seats on the Board of Chosen Freeholders are up for election. Republicans Edna Cox-Rivers, Thomas Coghan, and Gregg Rubenstein are running against Democrats Kenneth Armwood, Clary Azcona-Barber, and Charles Kenny. Brian Kulas was is a nominee by petition for the office.

Where do I vote?
Your polling place is included on a sample ballot mailed out to all registered voters. If you're still not sure, or you misplaced that sample ballot, you can look up your polling location on the New Jersey Division of Election's website.
When can I vote?
Election Day 2019 is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
