Metuchen Downtown Alliance To Host Breakdance Competition
The free event on Saturday will feature performances, a graffiti artist, food from local vendors, and more.
METUCHEN, NJ — If you love breakdancing, Metuchen is the place to be on Saturday.
The Metuchen Downtown Alliance will be hosting a breakdance competition on June 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The competition is presented by Pro Breaking Tour from the Bronx and sanctioned by UDEF.
The event is a collaboration between the Metuchen Downtown Alliance and Kids Breaking League. The evening will feature breakdancing performances, a T-shirt graffiti artist, and food from local vendors.

There will also be piano painting by Lawrence Ciarello - an artist, designer and muralist from Hoboken and Jonathan Horowitz, who worked on the Metuchen “See More” Mural. Attendance is free.
The Metuchen Downtown Alliance is a volunteer-based, nonprofit downtown management corporation dedicated to revitalizing the business district. The Alliance partners with residents, municipal government, and others to help businesses, especially since the pandemic.

Since being founded in 2016, Metuchen has seen over 126 new businesses, more than $150 million in investments, and added 387 apartments downtown.
The following Saturday, the Alliance has planned another event to celebrate Juneteenth.
On June 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Metuchen Downtown Alliance in collaboration with Papillon & Company and the Metuchen Human Relations Commission will celebrate Juneteenth. The event will include step dancers, children’s storytime, and speakers on the topic of “Lens on Black Life.”
