Metuchen HS Students Win Awards For Work On TV News, Production

The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awards news content produced by high school students.

METUCHEN, NJ — Students from Metuchen High School received two Student Production Awards for their work in TV news and production, the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced.

‘What’s the Scoop?’ from Metuchen High School won in the commercial category sharing the award with Penn Trafford High School, PA; and student Michelle Tang was the recipient of the editor award.

Founded in 1955, NATAS organizes the prestigious EMMY awards each year.

The recipients of the Crystal Pillar awards showcased excellence in video content produced by high school students. This year, NATAS has 120 entries and 67 nominees. There were 20 recipients of the 2021 Student Production Awards.

All entries were judged by media professionals and educators from within the chapter. Each winning entry receives an engraved crystal pillar award, and all nominees receive individualized Academy certificates.

“As we celebrate student achievement, we also acknowledge the educators that made this past year a success for their students,” Eric Heisler, president of the NATAS mid-Atlantic Chapter said in a media statement.

“While our chapter takes great pride in supporting the development of our next generation of television and media professionals, we recognize that development begins in the classroom with dedicated mentors.”

The NATAS Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s Student Production Awards recognizes outstanding cultural, educational, technological, entertainment, news, and informational achievements by high school students in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
