Metuchen Schools Approve Long Summer Break in 2021

School superintendent Vincent Caputo said the district has designed a calendar with the "longest possible summer break" this year.

METUCHEN, NJ – The Metuchen Public School District will have a long summer break this year.

According to the calendar year approved at Tuesday’s board of education meeting, the last day of school before summer break is June 20, 2021.

The school district will reopen only on Sep. 9, 2021 after Rosh Hashanah. June 21, 22 and 23 have been designated as make up snow days.

“We designed a calendar with the longest possible summer break. You’re welcome!” said school Superintendent Vincent Caputo in a weekend message.

Updating the to the school community on the COVID situation, Caputo said district schools remain open "with all mitigation efforts in place.”

He appealed to the community to avoid mask less gatherings and meeting people from outside their households. He also asked students to be honest when answering the daily screening questionnaire before coming for in-person classes.

Beginning Jan. 25, students from Metuchen High School (MHS) will return for in person classes.

The school district has a robust COVID-19 testing program for students and staff which they began earlier this month. They have now expanded the program to include family members as well.
