Metuchen Schools Go All-Remote & Early Dismissal Amid Nor'easter

The school district announced it will follow an all-remote, early dismissal schedule on Thursday so children can 'play in the snow.'

METUCHEN, NJ — Metuchen Public School will follow an all-remote and early dismissal schedule on Thursday, “so kids and can be kids and play in the snow by mid-day,” school superintendent Vincent Caputo announced Wednesday.

“Kids can be kids - and play in the snow by mid-day. And adults can be adults - and shovel while there is still plenty of daylight,” Caputo said in message to the school community.

He asked parents and guardians to check the individual school website for more details, or look for communication from the principals on schedule change.

Caputo said according to executive order no. 175, a school day, whether in-person or remote, must consist of at least four hours of active instruction.

“I believe this is the best of both worlds. We plan to implement this schedule for weather-related closures this year,” he said.

Caputo said the school district will be able to move the last day of school, including MHS graduation up to June 15, 2021.

“If there has even been a year that we all could use a long summer, it is this one! The Board will consider and most likely approve this calendar change when it reconvenes in January,” he said.
