New Sculpture Being Installed At Papaianni Park In Edison
Edison officials hope the park will eventually grow into a sculpture garden.

EDISON, NJ — A new sculpture will be installed in Papaianni Park in what officials hope is the start of a sculpture garden in Edison.
The sculpture, made by Fernando Silva, is called "The Family" and shows a family cut out of steel. It will be unveiled at the park, between Central Avenue and Municipal Boulevard near the Edison Municipal Complex, on June 27 at 6 p.m.
“Great communities like Edison deserve great art that’s accessible to residents and visitors,” Mayor Thomas Lankey said. “Art should capture people’s imaginations and make them think. Mr. Silva’s creations accomplish those goals.”

“Edison is fortunate to have a Mayor and Township Council who appreciate the arts and graciously support the Arts Society’s efforts,” said Edison Arts Society president Gloria Dittman, noting that sculpture garden has been in the works for over a year and that she received advice and assistance from the Lankey Administration.
The sculpture cost $50,000, and was paid for by donations from local businesses. The hope is that other sculptures will be commissioned for the park and that it will eventually become a sculpture garden.
