NJT confirmed the fatality at 7:43 a.m. on Thursday, and trains resumed at 8:12 a.m. The line was suspended entirely for about 50 minutes before service was restored between Rahway and Penn Station New York. Hour-long delays persisted for most of the morning, but cleared up by 11:30 a.m.

The train's engineer suffered minor injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment.
The New Jersey Coast Line made all local stops between Rahway and New York during the morning rush hour to compensate for lack of service on the NEC. PATH is cross honored at Newark, Hoboken and 33rd Street New York; that ended at about 11:30 a.m.
