EDISON-METUCHEN, NJ — Summer is just around the corner, and you may be planning now to find activities to keep the kids busy — and cool. An obvious summer favorite pastime is spending those hot afternoons at the local pool.
The state recently issued guidancefor pools to follow, so they can safely operate during the coronavirus pandemic.
So where near Edison-Metuchen can you take a dip? We've compiled this guide of local pools to help you and your family stay cool this summer.

Metuchen Municipal Pool: After being closed for the 2020 season, the Metuchen Municipal Pool is now open for 2021. Registrations begin Friday and will remain open through May 24. This year, Fresco by Jimmy’s will be the snack bar vendor. Expect a few COVID-19 precautions to be in place this year.

Oakcrest Community Pool, YMCA of Edison, Metuchen: The Oakcrest Community Pool is a popular destination for families. The facility includes a 6 lane pool, spiral tube slide, playground, kiddie pool , and more. They offer various types of memberships. Swimming lessons are also available.
Five Star Swim School: The Five Star Swim School is known for swimming lessons. You can also host pool parties for kids here, complete with games and inflatable pool toys.
The Lake at Cheesequake State Park: There is a beautiful lake inside the park with a beach and swimming area with lifeguards. Swimming is permitted in Hooks Creek Lake from Memorial day weekend through Labor Day weekend while lifeguards are on duty. Visitors will find a beach complex containing changing areas, restrooms, a first-aid station, and a concession offering refreshments, novelties, and beach supplies. We recommend going early in the season; the water may still be chilly but it will be clean and clear.
Crystal Spring Family Waterpark: This is the first municipal waterpark located in East Brunswick, New Jersey. A favorite with residents, the waterpark has a family pool, kiddie pool, lap pool, recreational pool, and more. Park opens May 30 - June 27 on weekends and from June 28 - Aug. 29 daily. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the waterpark will not offer chairs, lockers, grills, or picnic tables during the 2021 season. Expect some more COVID-19 restrictions to be in place.
