Youngsters can get tips from retired NFL players at this one-day camp.

From Edison Township: Are your youngsters ready for some football? Well, the Edison Township’s “Scoop & Score” Youth Football Camp is where they should be on Monday, June 24.

For a third straight year, the Edison Recreation Department is partnering with current and former NFL players to offer this innovative one-day football camp that teaches youngsters, ages 6–18, skills they can use on the playing field and in everyday life.

“Edison is proud to have talented NFL professional generously share their time and expertise with our youngsters and teenagers,” said Mayor Thomas Lankey, who created the camp with Edison native Mike Campbell, a former New York Jets wide receiver. “Unlike other football camps, Scoop & Score emphasizes the importance of education; making positive life choices, and community involvement.”

Among the participating NFL players are former Giants cornerback Brandon Bing; Tennessee Titans tight end Anthony Firsker; Cleveland Browns wide receiver Rod Streater; Miami Dolphins wide receiver Leonte Carroo; and Evan Rodriguez, former Chicago Bears tight end. Jersey City native Steve "Speedy" Gonzalez, former wide receiver for Dallas Vigilantes, who now operates “Lethal Speed,” will provide performance training drills to youngsters.

“This camp offers youngsters a greater appreciation for the value teamwork and sportsmanship, and shows them how to apply those skills to football, in school, and throughout their lives,” Campbell added.
