METUCHEN, NJ — Last night's windstorm caused downed power lines and forced the closure of Route 27 in Metuchen, Borough police said.

The highway is closed in both directions from Lake Ave to Grove Ave indefinitely, police said in a 6 a.m. alert. "Down power lines have caused major damage to the roadway. PLEASE AVOID THIS AREA," police said.

It's not clear when drivers should expect the road to be reopened.
