FLEMINGTON, NJ — After a long campaign season, Election Day 2019 is finally here in Flemington.

There are two proposals regarding safety, security and structure and air quality at several elementary, middle, and intermediate schools in the Flemington-Raritan Regional School District.

The $21.7 million security proposal, if approved, would mean security upgrades and improvements, including cameras, door and alarm upgrades, and communications systems. Roofs and windows would be replaced at several schools, as well.
The $20.3 million air quality proposal would, if approved, include air-conditioning control upgrades at Barley Sheaf, Cooper Hill, Francis A. Desmares, Reading Fleming, and Robert Hunter schools.

The state will pay between 34 and 40 percent of costs, about $14 million. Taxpayers would be responsible for about $28 million, if both proposals pass. The district only gets the state aid if both proposals pass.
Six people are vying for two, three-year seats on the borough council: Democrats Jessica Hand and Jeremy Long, Republicans Marc Hain and Saundra Scott, and two candidates appearing on the ballot via petition: Alan Brewer and Alexandra Shore.
