Flemington Borough, Raritan Township Form Joint Parks And Recreation Program

Starting in 2020, residents of Flemington and Raritan Township will have access to year-round parks and rec programs with a new partnership.

From Raritan Township: Beginning next year, residents of Flemington and Raritan Township will have the opportunity to participate in a new streamlined recreation program. Over the past 41 years, Flemington Borough and Raritan Township contributed to a joint Parks and Recreation partnership, operated by a Parks and Recreation Committee made up of residents of both towns, providing year-round programs for residents.

Starting next year, the township will create a new recreation department as part of their municipal services to better serve residents of both communities. Residents of both Flemington Borough and Raritan Township will be able to sign up the same way they always have: through the schools and online. Fees for participation will be the same for residents of both municipalities.

The cost savings will be of significant benefit to both municipalities with no change in services. Parks will continue to be maintained by the municipality in which they are located. Flemington will continue to offer its annual fireworks program July 3 at Reading-Fleming Intermediate School in the borough.

“Raritan Township is pleased that a mutual understanding was reached as to the future of the Recreation Department and that Raritan Township will be continuing the great work that the Flemington-Raritan Recreation Committee has provided for the last 41 years. Much thanks to those currently serving as committee members and to those who have served in the past for their selfless community service and efforts," said Raritan Township Mayor Jeff Kuhl in a statement.

“The residents of the borough will see absolutely no change in the recreation programs they will be able to participate in and the borough is grateful the township is stepping in to create a shared services recreation arrangement that will benefit everyone. We are looking forward to many more decades of cooperative recreation programs that will keep our residents healthy and fit," said Flemington Borough Mayor Betsy Driver in a statement.

Please visit the websites of both communities for information on how to sign up for the always exciting slate of recreation programs in 2020.
