Hunterdon County Polytech Open House Jan. 26

Hunterdon County students and parents can explore Polytech High School's career-technical programs

Flemington, N.J. – Polytech Career and Technical High School will open its doors to prospective students and their guardians from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26. The annual Open House makes it easy for families to learn what the school has to offer for students who live in any Hunterdon County school district.

On all three campuses that house Polytech programs – the Bartles Campus, Central Campus and Hunterdon County Educational Services Commission (HCESC) Campus, school staff will be available to speak with families about the programs offered at this Career and Technical Education (CTE) standout. Current students will share their experiences in their respective programs.

Each year more than 70% of Polytech’s graduates enroll in various colleges and universities in New Jersey and across the country. Most of the remaining 30% go directly into the workforce or enter one of the military branches of service.

Many of those graduates earn college credits while attending Polytech, and transfer those to their post-secondary schools. Polytech further offers its students concentrated learning experiences through the several student-based organizations, trade-focused development groups and community service projects it hosts.

“We differ from traditional high schools by blending hands-on learning, college credits and industry certifications into curricula that are focused on specific career paths,” said Tanya Nalesnik, assistant business administrator for the Hunterdon County Vocational School District. “Many of our graduates return to us with success stories about how their high level of preparation helped them stand out in college or the workforce.”

Polytech’s 13 core program areas allow students to explore technical and career options in a hands-on environment while subprograms offer further specialization. Unlike a traditional high school, every one of those programs offers college credits, licensing, credentials, specific job skills or certifications. Students attend their home high schools for all academic requirements and are bused to Polytech for half-day programs. Polytech courses run for a full year to comprise 20 elective credits with most students starting as juniors.
