With the new school year fast approaching in September, Hunterdon County Freeholder John E. Lanza renewed his call for Governor Phil Murphy to sign legislation (A-4110) requiring three point lap and shoulder seat belts on school buses.
Lanza, who previously wrote Governor Murphy on June 26th in support of the legislation after it was approved by the Senate by a 38-0 vote, stated, “The bill passed on June 25th, I am not sure why it is taking the Governor so long to give his signature to this needed safety measure.”

Lanza is encouraging members of the public to post on Facebook or use Twitter to call on the Governor to sign the A-4110, the School Bus Seat Belt Safety bill. Contact Governor Murphy on Twitter: @GovMurphy. Hashtag, #protectNJkidswithbillA4110.
Lanza, the Freeholder Board’s Public Safety liaison, added, “The bill affords school children the same protection that they have in their family car and meets the recommendations of the National Transportation Safety Board.
The legislation is of significant importance in Hunterdon County, where a preponderance of our school children travel daily by school bus.”
In addition to the tragic accident in Morris County on May 17th where a Paramus teacher and student were killed and many were injured, there have been four major school bus accidents in New Jersey already this year, the most recent of which was in Medford on July 16th, where over 35 school children were injured.
