HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ — After a report was published last week about U.S. Representative Tom Malinowski's stock trading practices during the COVID-19 pandemic, Republican Hunterdon County Committee Chairman Gabe Plumer sent out a statement accusing Malinowski of taking "unethical and likely illegal action."

Malinowski represents New Jersey's 7th Congressional District and was reelected last year by a margin of 1.2 percent.

According to the AP, Malinowski bought or sold as much as $1 million of stock in medical and tech companies that had a stake in the virus response since early 2020, after scolding those looking to profit off of the health crisis. And that was just a part of the $3.2 million that he did not properly disclose, AP wrote.

“The charge that Congressman Malinowski abused his office is categorically false," a press release from the Congressman's office later stated. "These trades were made solely by his broker based on publicly available information and without Congressman Malinowski’s input of prior knowledge."

Somerset County Dems Will Stand With Malinowski Amid Accusations

Plumer doubled down on the criticism over Malinowski's conduct, calling his behavior hypocritical.

“While Congressman Malinowski was supposed to be working on behalf of the hard-working constituents of the 7th Congressional District, as Hunterdon County struggled through the pandemic, he was instead profiting from our pain,” Plumer said.

He accused Malinowski of prioritizing himself over his public service responsibilities and said that the Congressman deceive the voters while criticizing others for the same thing.

“The Hunterdon County Republican Organization is committed to making sure Malinowski doesn’t fool voters into believing this was an error of misplaced paperwork," he said. "Hunterdon County deserves a representative who they can look in the eyes and trust he will have their backs in Washington D.C. Tom Malinowski is clearly not that person."
