Stangl Factory: A Hidden Treasure in Flemington, NJ
Find art, community, and peace in an otherwise chaotic world.

In fast-paced and anonymous America, it can be hard to find somewhere to stop, take a breath, and connect with your local community; but that’s just what you get with Flemington, NJ’s Stangl Factory. Converted from a historical pottery factory and outlet showroom into a modern-day artisan’s haven, Stangl is home to several local businesses and has become a favorite of Flemington residents and visitors alike. It’s one of the few places left where you can feel a sense of belonging and ease.
My first introduction to the Stangl Factory was Factory Fuel co., a cozy, industrial-style coffee shop with an ever-enticing menu, almost always with vegan options. Along with well-crafted tea and coffee staples, you can find more adventurous options like the Blue Buddah Lemondade and the Rose Tea Latte. Although hesitant at first to try their Black Latte, a Halloween special prepared with activated charcoal, I found myself wishing the creative coffee drink was available year-round. Factory Fuel Co. offers free wi-fi and eclectic seating, including a bench affixed to the wall inside an old refurbished and repurposed kiln from back in the day. It’s the perfect spot for a date, hanging out, or getting some work done.
If you’re looking for a heartier meal, right next door you’ll find Blue Fish Grill, a family owned and operated restaurant committed to excellent food and great customer service. Though on the pricier side, the mouth-watering meals are worth every penny. During warmer weather, sit outside on the patio and revel in the fresh air and cheery clinking of glasses.

Of course, if you’re in the factory, you must view the art. The Kev Von Holt Gallery and Kissimmee Pottery Studio are homes to local artists with undeniable talent. Von Holtermann’s gallery displays his masterful abstract acrylic works, pieces that will leave an art admirer contemplative and emotional. At the Kissimmee Pottery Studio, you can sign up to learn from John Fulwood, nationally renowned master potter, whether you’re just a beginner or looking to learn some advanced techniques.
If music is more your thing, be sure to catch one of the live shows at Stangl Stage. The Flemington Rocks website has a calendar of upcoming events. Upcoming shows as of right now include Journeyman- Tribute to Eric Clapton on Saturday, April 6th at 8PM and Slippery When Wet- Bon Jovi Tribute on Saturday, May 18th. Drive past on a Saturday morning and you’ll find a packed parking lot; as early as 9AM shoppers head to Stangl Factory for the weekly indoor farmer’s market to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables, grass-fed meat, artisanal food products, and artfully crafted home décor. It’s worth the effort to snag a spot and browse the selection of fine goods. Just be forewarned; you won’t leave empty-handed.
Maybe, like me, you need some time to focus on you and get in touch with your inner self. In that case, A Life in Balance can offer the reverie you need. Offering rehabilitative, wellness, and preventative care, the instructors at this yoga and exercise studio are ready to help you be the best version of yourself.
If nothing else, make your way out to Stangl Factory for the Flemington Fine Arts Show on May 26th or 27th; this gathering of local artists for show and sale will show you just how unique and full of talent Flemington truly is. Further, it will remind you that there is joy in community and art, something we can all probably use a little more of.
