The United States Postal Service is investigating a sign posted at one of its New Jersey locations that says March is "stop blaming white people month."

The Flemington sign said: "March is national stop blaming white people month! Accept responsibility for your own bad choices. Hug a white person!"

The sign was put up last week and has since been taken down, Flemington Councilwoman Betsy Driver told Patch.

USPS Postal Inspector Greg Kliemisch told nj.com that posting signs on the building is strictly prohibited, but he could not confirm whether or not the location had cameras outside the building that captured the incident.

Driver criticized the sign on the "Flemington Forward" Facebook group. She noted that somebody on Facebook posted a message on the sign that said: "At the post office in town right now and saw this sign placed inside lmao!!!"

"This is disturbing. And sadder is that the poster posted it on FU (since deleted) as an 'lmao' item," Driver wrote in response to that message. "Racism in our town exists, and the racists have been emboldened in the past year to fly their hateful flags a bit higher and yell a bit louder."
