Athletes of the Week: Off the Field with Jason Lundy and David Yanez

Both Freehold High School students received scholarships to play Division I baseball next year.

Two Freehold High School (FHS) student athletes are about to begin their last season as Colonials before they go on to play Division I baseball.

Jason Lundy and David Yanez are both seniors at FHS. When the boys were freshman, on the team both students set goals with coach Jon Block of playing college baseball one day.

“They all had a dream, they all wanted to play ball at the next level. So today that has happened but it has to continue,” said Block during the FHS signing ceremony breakfast.

Lundy and Yanez were two of the eight athletes honored for receiving athletic scholarships at the annual FHS signing ceremony. Lundy has committed to play at Fordham University while Yanez signed a letter of intent for NJIT.

“These two have been with me since they were freshman, they have sacrificed and I can not ask any more of any two athletes. As far as what occurs on the field, their character is beyond is anything I have witnessed in 20 plus years here as far as baseball players and as students,” stated Block.
