Brush Collection Continues into 2013 for Freehold Township Residents

While the calendar shows a new year, reminders of 2012 still line many of Freehold Township's streets in the form of brush waiting to be collected from when Hurricane Sandy hit Freehold.

As of Dec. 31, Freehold Township’s brush collection map showed that the majority of the township’s districts have been cleared of brush left behind from the storm. However, some residents in districts E and F are still waiting for collection to begin.

Freehold Township’s website states that Public Works has been taking an aggressive approach to the clean up, with crews working six extended work days a week, in addition to employing the services of multiple contracting agencies for equipment and services.

To keep residents in the loop, a map was created to show which areas have had brush collection and which areas have not. Red lines on the map indicate where collection has taken place. The most recent form of the map can be seen in the attached PDF.

“Progress continues to be slow due to the magnitude of the brush that needs to be collected, but every effort is being made to complete this task as soon as logistically possible. The Township is well aware that the brush causes a narrowing of roadways that requires cautious driving, and we urge all motorists to take care when traveling in these sight restricted areas. Many of these areas could see brush pickup continuing well into January and early February,” reads an announcement posted on the Township’s website. 

The town's recycling center is also helping out with brush collection by allowing storm related brush to be dropped off at the center. Christmas trees may also be dropped off at this time, but residents are being asked to not bring recyclables to the center until further notice.
