Downed Trees Block Route 9, Cut Power To 10K In Freehold Area

FREEHOLD, NJ — Trees and power lines were down all over the Freehold area on Monday night, leaving more than 9,000 homes and businesses in Freehold Township and more than 1,100 without power following a storm that packed strong winds.

Route 9 was blocked at one point after a tree was brought down by the wind in the area of Brocks Farm, near Schanck Road.

More than 136,000 Monmouth County customers of Jersey Central Power & Light were without power at the peak of the storm outages, according to the company's outage map. Crews were working through the night to restore power.

The Monmouth County sheriff's office posted a message to its social media urging residents to report power outages to JCP&L and to only call 911 in life-threatening emergencies.

JCP&L was not estimating when power would be restored because of the widespread issues.
