Fierce Winds Knock Out Power To 2,500 In Monmouth County

Breaking: The outages are mostly small pockets of 20 customers or fewer, according to JCP&L.

Jersey Central Power & Light is reporting about 2,500 customers have lost power in Monmouth County Thursday morning as fierce winds from a cold front have brought down wires in a number of places.

The outages are scattered and most of them are small — fewer than 20 customers, according to JCP&L's outage map. But there are a few spots where more than 100 customers are without power, including one in the Squankum area of Howell where as many as 500 customers may be out, and another one of up to 500 in the Adelphia area near Route 33. Up to 500 customers are without power near Bamm Hollow in Middletown as well, and between 500 and 1,500 are out in Rumson, according to the map.

The company's outage map says the outages are weather-related and that it has called in extra crews to help restore power. Some of the outages are expected to be restored by early afternoon.
