Former Freehold Resident, ‘Elite Gymnast’ Dies at 37

Services for Lisasue McLaughlin Horrigan will be held at the Higgins Funeral Home and will begin on Wednesday, April 3.

Lisasue McLaughlin Horrigan, 37, of Cockeysville, Maryland died Sunday, March 31, at Gilcrest Center, Maryland.

Horrigan was born and raised in Freehold, she graduated from Freehold High School in 1993. Horrigan married Robert Horrigan in 2006 and was a loving mother of Sean Joseph Horrigan, 5, and step-mother to Amy Rita Horrigan, 21.

Horrigan was a very accomplished gymnast who began practicing at the age of 6. Within 10 years she had become Team Captain at her high school and had become one of New Jersey's standout gymnasts. At the age 16 she became an "Elite Gymnast" and was nationally ranked in the top 50. During her junior year at Freehold High School, Horrigan had a career ending injury that kept her from trying out for the USA Olympic Gymnastics Team.

After high school, Horrigan went on to coach gymnastics for the next 19 years where she built a legacy in teaching, coaching and mentoring. She taught excellence in gymnastics with a healthy, balanced and enjoyable approach to the sport. Through her work, she nurtured creativity, fun, and a lifelong enjoyment of physical fitness for thousands of girls. She was greatly loved by her students and their families.

Horrigan is survived by her husband, son, step-daughter, mother, father, sister, brother, father in-law, step-mother-in law, Jill Horrigan; grandmother, Elizabeth Sitar; her in-laws, Robert Lynch, Jahaira McLaughlin, Jean Gregus, Bobby Gregus, George Horrigan Jr., and Lisa Horrigan and her eight nieces and nephews, Robert Lynch, Rebecca Lynch, Brandon Lynch, Camila McLaughlin, Emily Horrigan, George Horrigan III, Peter Gregus and Johnny Gregus.

The viewing for her will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. followed by interment at the parish cemetery.
