Freehold Area Schools Announce Delayed Opening

Breaking: The potential for serious ice conditions in the morning has led to the delay.

FREEHOLD, NJ — Citing lingering effects of the winter storm that blew through the region on Tuesday, officials of Freehold area school districts have announced delayed openings for the schools on Wednesday.

The Freehold Borough and Freehold Township districts will be operating on 90-minute delayed openings on Wednesday, officials said.

For the Freehold Regional High School District, the 90-minute delayed opening means classes at the three early schools — Freehold, Howell, Manalapan — will begin at 9 a.m., while the late schools — Colts Neck, Freehold Township and Marlboro — will begin at 9:55 a.m.

Emergency management officials across the area said falling temperatures that are expected to remain below freezing likely will cause roads to become icy and hazardous. Crews are treating the roads but drivers should plan for extra travel time in the morning.

In addition, St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel, announced a 2-hour delayed opening. Students who drive should not arrive before 9:15 a.m.
