Freehold: Declaration of Independence Reading Planned For July 4

If you're looking for a unique Independence Day activity that doesn't include fireworks, look no further than this historic tradition.

FREEHOLD, NJ - If you’re looking for a unique July 4th activity that doesn’t include fireworks, look no further: Freehold Borough will be hosting its annual reading of the Declaration of Independence this year.

The borough will be hosting the tradition on July 4 at 9 a.m. at borough hall (57 West Main Street).

A livestream will be available on the Borough of Freehold Facebook page.

Fans of fireworks and evening celebrations can still check out other festivities in the area, including Matawan’s Independence Day celebration, Jackson’s Six Flags Great Adventure fireworks show and Point Pleasant’s fireworks extravaganza near Jenkinson’s. And if you don’t want the celebrations to end past July 4, Neighboring Freehold Township will also be celebrating its Freehold Township Day from 4 to 11 p.m. on July 10 at Michael J. Tighe Park (65 Georgia Road with a fireworks show to conclude the festivities at 9 p.m.
