Freehold PD Renews Agreement With Regional, Township Schools

Service agreements were renewed during an Aug. 18 meeting, allowing special law enforcement officers to provide security at local schools.

FREEHOLD, NJ – Law enforcement officers employed by the Freehold Township Police Department will continue to provide security for Freehold Regional High School District and Freehold Township K-8 schools.

Shared service agreements between the Freehold Township Committee and the school districts were renewed at an Aug. 18 meeting, according to municipal documents.

The agreements were first implemented in 2018, according to CentralJersey.com.

Last month’s meeting calls for Class II and III special law enforcement officers to maintain a secure campus at Freehold Regional’s six schools and Freehold Township’s eight schools. Special law enforcement officers are allowed to carry a firearm on duty.

The regional high school, which serves students in Freehold Township, Freehold Boro, Farmingdale, Englishtown, Colts Neck, Howell, Manalapan and Marlboro. High school students will begin the upcoming school year receiving remote instruction until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Freehold Township K-8 schools are participating in all-remote instruction for the first two weeks of the 2020-21 school year. Students who opt for in-person instruction will begin attending school on Sept. 21, according to the school district.
