Freehold’s Halls Mill Road To Be Widened, Add Turning Lanes

The main road recently added a traffic signal. Now it's in the process of being widened with the addition of turning lanes, authorities said

FREEHOLD, NJ - A new traffic signal on Route 524 this month is just the first of several traffic changes to the area, authorities said.

In a Facebook post, the Freehold Township Police Department announced that a new traffic signal on Route 524 and Edinburg Drive will be in operation starting April 7.

"Please utilize caution in the area while everyone becomes accustomed to the new traffic pattern," the police department wrote in a statement.

But the traffic pattern changes are far from over, according to Freehold Township Sgt. Joseph Winowski.

“The new light is just east of the old intersection with Elton Adelphia Road and provides better line of sight for drivers,” Winowski told Patch in an email.

Halls Mill Road is also in the process of being widened and realigned to intersect with Elton Adelphia Road with the addition of dedicated turn lanes (it was previously a T-intersection just west of Edinburgh Drive). Lighting will also be improved in the area, Winowski said.

Halls Mill Road is not the only area intersection to see traffic pattern changes in recent memory. Gordons Corner Road in neighboring Manalapan recently with four lanes on the main road now reduced to three. The center lane will now serve as a turning lane, Manalapan police wrote in a statement.
