Route 33 Resurfacing Project Postponed To July: DOT

Work originally scheduled for Friday has been pushed off; traffic impacts will be minimized, the state DOT said.

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A project to resurface about three miles of Route 33 has been rescheduled until the middle of July, the state Department of Transportation said Friday.

"(The project) was originally scheduled to begin today," said Matthew Saidel, spokesman for the state DOT, but it was pushed back.

Saidel spoke in response to a Patch report, gleaned from information sent to Freehold Borough residents, about the impending roadwork.

He said regardless of the timing of the project, the highway will not be fully shut down at any time due to the project.

"NJDOT has no intention of closing Route 33 at any time," Saidel said. "The project will have temporary lane closures, mostly occurring at night, with traffic on the roadway maintained at all times. Once we have the rescheduled start date, NJDOT will provide public notification."

The project is expected to be completed in late fall of 2018, Saidel said.
