School Closures, Nor’easter Snow Totals In Monmouth County
A major storm was expected to hit Monmouth County. Here's what happened, and here's what's expected to happen next.
MONMOUTH COUNTY – A “major" nor'easter hit the Monmouth County area on Monday, resulting in up to 16 inches of snow, forcing schools and municipal buildings to close and flooding in some parts of Monmouth County.
Gov. Phil Murphy warned New Jerseyans that the nor'easter, which first made its way into the state on Sunday and has dumped as many as 30 inches since then, could extend all the way to Tuesday evening.
"Let me say this unequivocally: This is a big one. And it's going to be with us at this point, we think, until tomorrow night," the governor said during a news briefing in Woodbridge on Monday.

State officials said they have more than 3,900 pieces of road equipment available to make the roads safe, even though fewer people are taking to the roads because of the coronavirus. Monmouth county officials have also announced the deployment of 250 trucks and equipment to prepare roads ahead of the storm.
"My fellow Commissioners and I advise anyone who needs to travel during this storm to proceed with caution and allow for extra time to get where they are going as roadways will be slippery," said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering.
"If you come across County snow and ice control trucks and equipment, make sure to give them room to do their work."
