St. Rose of Lima Teacher Honored by TODAY Show
Dylan surprises her favorite elementary school teacher in emotional reunion

On October 12, the NBC TODAY Show came to St. Rose of Lima School in Freehold to film a segment honoring a very special teacher. TODAY Show meteorologist and former St. Rose of Lima student, Dylan Dreyer, nominated her own second grade teacher, Mrs. Debbie Moroney, for the show’s “Thank-a-Teacher” program.
Ms. Dreyer shared with viewers her admiration for Mrs. Moroney, and credited her with helping to build her foundation and shaping her into the person she is today. “She was a part of who I would become,” Ms. Dreyer explained during the broadcast that aired nationally on November 5 th .
During the filming, Mrs. Moroney recalled her blessings as a teacher, telling how her heart was touched by the heart of every student she taught in her 19 years at St. Rose of Lima. Mrs. Moroney returned to her former classroom to watch the segment with current first and second grade students, who were excited to see their school on television!

A surprise highlight for Mrs. Moroney was a gift of $5,000 presented in her honor to St. Rose of Lima School from the Clorox Foundation. The donation will be used exclusively for the professional development of the school’s teachers, explained Principal Sr. Mary Helen Beirne.
