500 COVID Vaccine Appointments Available Monday In Camden County

Although there are no doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine left, 500 appointments to get the COVID vaccine are still available for Monday.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Another 500 appointments are available at Camden County’s COVID-19 vaccination center for Monday, officials said Thursday afternoon.

The appointments are available after the county unexpectedly received 13,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 10,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, last week, Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said during a news conference Thursday afternoon.

“We now have openings next week that we wouldn’t have had otherwise,” Cappelli said. “Many people had their appointments moved up months.”

Earlier this week, county officials announced that a "significant amount" of the Moderna and Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccines had been made available to the county.

This enabled the county to move up several appointments and scheduled thousands of new appointments. Read more here: Thousands Of New COVID Vaccine Appointments Up In Camden County

No appointments are available to receive the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and Cappelli said no new Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be available next week.

“We’re not sure how steady the flow will be” of Johnson & Johnson vaccines, Camden County Assistant Public Health Coordinator Caryelle Lasher said. “We find out on a week-to-week basis.”

Cappelli pointed out that the county’s ability to get tens of thousands of people vaccinated on short notice tells the state that the county is capable of getting people vaccinated.

Lasher said close to 50 percent of Camden County adults have been vaccinated. As of Thursday, 298,824 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Camden County. There are 185,562 people with at least one vaccine dose, and 122,783 people who are fully vaccinated.

“Every day we get closer to beating this pandemic thanks to the vaccination rollout taking place at the Camden County Vaccination Center and elsewhere, but we cannot lose sight of the hundreds of county residents continuing to fight and struggle with this disease,” Cappelli said. “Even as the weather gets warmer and gathering outdoors becomes easier, please remember to continue observing the practices that we know protect people, especially if you are around individuals who have not been vaccinated. We can minimize the harm this disease causes over the next several months if we continue to fight just a while longer.”

On Thursday, the county announced an additional 147 coronavirus cases, bringing the county's total since the start of the pandemic to 44,496 and 1,135 deaths. The average age of Camden County residents who are testing positive for the coronavirus has now dropped to 33, Lasher said.

On Monday, Murphy announced that all New Jersey residents 16 years of age and over will be eligible for vaccination beginning April 19. Currently, only the Pfizer vaccine can be administered to individuals between the ages of 16 and 17 years old. Read more here: COVID Vaccines Will Expand To NJ Residents 16 And Older

The Camden County Vaccination Center in Blackwood is offering only the Moderna and Johnson and Johnson vaccines at this time, and it is unclear when the Pfizer vaccine may become available in Camden County. However, when it becomes available, the county will be ready to administer it, Lasher said.

The vaccination center at Camden County College, 200 College Drive in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township has had extended hours this week to accommodate the influx of new appointments, officials said.

The vaccination site is operated by the county in partnership with Cooper University Health Care and Jefferson Health-New Jersey.

The Camden County Vaccination Clinic is currently open to those with appointments only. Appointments are available for eligible residents at camdencountyvaccine.com or by calling 856-549-0530 or 1-800-999-9045.
