CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — New data has been released that shows the coronavirus continues to have an impact on Camden County (see town-by-town totals below).

Camden County reported a 13-month total of 45,729 cases on Friday, an increase of 1,075 cases over the previous week. On Friday, the county reported 122 new cases and six new deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities to 1,150 since the beginning of the pandemic.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of six additional Camden County residents due to COVID-19. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the victims and their families,” Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. “We can prevent additional unnecessary suffering caused by this virus if we keep our guard up and fight to the finish line. We need everyone to get vaccinated as soon as they are able, and we have to continue protecting one another by social distancing and wearing masks. The end of this battle may be nearing, but we have to do our part to get there.”

This means the county has a rate of 10 to 25 cases per 100,000 people. If the overall activity is at an "orange" level, state officials say, school districts in those counties would have to take more serious steps — such as quarantining or even shutting down schools — if a child shows the symptoms of COVID-19.

"When it is high risk, there are some recommendations that we make together with local school boards," said Edward Lifshitz, medical director for the state Department of Health.

Indeed, a number of school districts still provide remote instruction even as the number of new daily cases has dropped in recent weeks.
