Camden Police Car Strikes, Kills Woman; State Investigating
A Camden woman was killed when she was hit by a police car while crossing the street Wednesday night, according to the Attorney General.
CAMDEN, NJ — A Camden woman was killed when she was hit by a police car while crossing the street Wednesday night, according to the Attorney General’s Office, which is investigating the incident.
She was crossing Mount Ephraim Avenue at Woodlynne Avenue at about 10:55 p.m. when she was struck by an on-duty, uniformed Camden County police officer who was driving a marked patrol car, the Attorney General’s Office said in a statement Thursday afternoon.
The officer immediately stopped and radioed for help, authorities said. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene at about 11:09 p.m. The officer wasn’t responding to any police alert at the time of the accident, authorities said.

Under state law passed in January 2019, the Attorney General’s Office is required to investigate a person’s death when it occurs during an encounter with a police officer who is acting in an official capacity, or while the victim is in custody.
