Field of Dreams Groundbreaking, Chili Cook Off on Saturday
Gloucester Township will celebrate two firsts on Saturday—the opening of its handicapped-accessible baseball field and a chili cook off to benefit the Field of Dreams.

Chili aficionados, Gloucester Township is the place to be this weekend.
The town’s inaugural chili cook off commences this Saturday, April 20 at the Field of Dreams—which will have its groundbreaking the same day.
The chili cook off judging starts at noon. Chefs have from 6 a.m. until noon to whip up their best recipe (note: no extra points for the spiciest chili.)

Then everyone will participate in the groundbreaking ceremony at the Field of Dreams, the handicapped-accessible baseball field at Community Park on Hickstown Road in the township’s Erial section. Field of Dreams can accommodate baseball and softball players with physical and mental disabilities. In addition to other upgrades from the typical ball field, the Field of Dreams includes an artificial-surface infield to make it easier for those in wheelchairs and walkers to play the game.
Supporters have fundraised for Field of Dreams for months, and the chili cook off will help add to the coffers. All proceeds benefit the project. The cook off is $20 for amateurs chefs, $30 for professionals and $10 per person to taste all contestants. Prizes will be handed out at 2 p.m.
