Fire Rips Through Howard Johnson In Gloucester Township: Police

A four-alarm fire destroyed part of the Howard Johnson Hotel on the Black Horse Pike in Gloucester Township Wednesday morning.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A four-alarm fire ripped through a Howard Johnson hotel in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township early Wednesday morning, according to Gloucester Township police. It has been brought under control and there were no injuries.

The Black Horse Pike was closed between Route 42 and Almonesson Road, but has since reopened.

The fire broke out at about 3:30 a.m. at the hotel on the 800 block of North Black Horse Pike, police said. The fire spread to two of the hotel's three buildings, but all those who were staying at the hotel were safely evacuated, police said.

Multiple fire companies responded to the scene to help put out the fire, which shot through the roof of the hotel, police said. The fire was brought under control at about 5:30 a.m. Police posted images from the scene, which can be found below.

The Camden County Uniformed Firefighters Association posted video from the scene on its Facebook page.

The fire damaged 15 units, 6 ABC reports. A bus was brought in for hotel guests and employees that fled the hotel and were out in the cold. Most of the damage occurred on the upper levels of the hotel, Fox 29 reports.

The fire remains under investigation by multiple agencies, police said.
