Gloucester Police Remind Bicyclists To Stay Off Walking Paths

The reminder comes after recent complaints of teens intentionally riding their bikes toward walkers, threatening their safety, police said.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Gloucester Township Police Department is reminding bicyclists to stay clear of park walking paths.

The reminder comes after police said they've received numerous complaints about teens caught riding bicycles on the walking paths at Gloucester Township Veteran’s Park and Community Park.

"The majority of the complaints are juveniles intentionally riding their bikes towards walkers, threatening their safety, and large groups of juveniles on bikes congregating and blocking the walking paths," the department said on Facebook.

Bicycles are prohibited on these walking paths, police said.

According to the township's ordinance, "the use of bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles will be limited to roadways, drives and parking areas as established and open to all other vehicular traffic, within any township park or recreation area, as may be posted and designated."

Violators could face hefty fines.

Formerly known as the Blackwood Railroad Trail, this paved bicycle path runs on an abandoned railroad bed that roughly parallels the Black Horse Pike. The distance is approximately three miles with the trail passing by various recreational facilities, schools, businesses, and natural areas.
