GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Thanksgiving Day football game reportedly ended when tensions boiled over and a fight broke out between Highland Regional and Triton.

Highland held a 28-0 lead over Triton early in the fourth quarter when a melee broke out, nj.com reports. After the players were separated, the officials put an end to the game with nine minutes, three seconds to go.

“Emotions are always high, it’s a rivalry game,” Highland lineman Winston Jordan told the Courier Post. Jordan played for Triton as a freshman before moving and transferring to Highland, where he played his final three years.

Mohammad Lightsey rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns to lead Highland, who finished a season shortened by coronavirus issues with a 2-5 record, including a 2-4 mark in the West Jersey Football League. Mike D’Amico also rushed for a pair of Tartans scores.
