Gloucester Twp. Summer Camps Canceled For Second Straight Year
For the second straight year, Gloucester Township officials have canceled their summer programs amid the coronavirus pandemic.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — For the second straight year, Gloucester Township officials have canceled their summer programs amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“Gloucester Township Recreation Department’s Summer Camps utilize our local schools for camp locations,” township officials said in a statement. “Local schools are currently not allowing outside groups to use their facilities.”
The cancellations include the Gloucester Township Police Department’s Junior Police Academy. The township said the safety of the children, community and staff remain their utmost concern.

Gloucester Township also canceled its summer camps last year, as it was unable to use the school districts’ facilities. That announcement came shortly after Gov. Phil Murphy announced that schools would not return to in-person learning for the 2019-20 school year after they had been shut down in March.

As of Thursday, there have been 4,966 cases of the coronavirus in Gloucester Township since the pandemic began over a year ago.
