GTPD, First Responders to Run Bus Crash Drill

Gloucester Township Police Department, Gloucester Township Office of Emergency Management, Chews Landing Fire Department, Kennedy Emergency Medical Services and New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit will conduct a training exercise behind the Chews Landing fire station Monday, beginning at 7 p.m.

The drill will simulate a school bus crash. Members of Boy Scouts Troop 811 will participate in the exercise.

Emergency responders will interact with the more than 70 scouts from Troop 811, explaining their roles during a response to such an event. Several members of Troop 811 will use the exercise to complete the requirements for their emergency preparedness and first aid merit badges.

Emergency responders will mimic their response to the event and will educate the scouts and parents to: their actions en route to the scene; procedures while at the accident scene; and measures necessary to make the scene safe.

The Boy Scouts will focus on principles of emergency preparedness, including response, recovery, mitigation and prevention. The scouts will also discuss how to recognize injuries and how to best aid each other if they are ever involved in such an event.

Chews Landing Fire Department serves as the charter organization for Boy Scouts Troop 811.
