Mayor, Council to Recognize GTPD for Awards

Gloucester Township Police Department picks up national and state honors.

Mayor David Mayer and the Township Council will recognize the Gloucester Township Police Department Monday night for national and state awards it has received in recent months.

Police have been recognized for their efforts in both bullying awareness and traffic safety.

The recognition ceremony will take place in Council Chambers, in the municipal building, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

In July, the Police Department received a national award for its efforts in promoting bullying awareness. GTPD's Project BATLE (Bullying Awareness Through Law Enforcement) was recognized by the School Safety Advocacy Council as one of the best programs in the country in keeping students safe in their schools and communities.

In May, the Police Department was awarded first place in the 2011 New Jersey Law Enforcement Challenge by the Office of New Jersey Highway Traffic Safety, New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The local department was recognized for its efforts in traffic safety initiatives and community outreach efforts.
