Mullen Middle School Wins SJ Baseball Title

It was the first South Jersey Middle School Baseball League title in the school's history.

MARLTON—Ann A. Mullen Middle School won its first-ever South Jersey Middle School Baseball League title Thursday with a 6-3 win over DeMasi Middle School, of Marlton.

The Jaguars won the game on the strength of a strong pitching performance by Gianni D'Antonio, who went the distance.

The team finished the season with an 11-3 record.

"Fantastic. I've got a lot of the kids who went to the state (Little League) final with Erial last year. A lot of great athletes," head coach Frank Albano said after the game. "They never give up. ... They just fight and fight. A great group of kids."

Mullen advanced to the championship game against DeMasi, which had won the only regular-season contest between the two schools, 2-1, with a come-from-behind 6-3 win over Gloucester Township Public Schools rival Charles W. Lewis Middle School in the semifinals.
