Over 12K Without Power In Gloucester Township

More than 12,000 people are without power in Gloucester Township Wednesday night after two storms tore through the region.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — More than 12,000 people are without power in Gloucester Township as of 11 p.m. Wednesday night after two storms tore through the region. A storm that has been classified as a derecho earlier Wednesday was followed by a storm that included both a tornado warning and a severe thunderstorm warning Wednesday night.

Officials are asking residents to stay home and only drive if necessary while they evaluate damage caused by the most recent round of storms.

"Gloucester Township is experiencing power outages, trees down, wires down and minor flooding throughout town," officials said in a statement. "There are also numerous road closures. We appreciate your cooperation. Thank you."

A total of 8,745 PSEG customers were without power at 11 p.m. Another 4,021 Atlantic City Electric customers were in the dark. The estimated restoration for PSEG customers was midnight Saturday. For Atlantic City Electric customers, it was 6 p.m. Thursday.
