Need Help Paying Rent? Camden County May Be Able To Help
Camden County is currently accepting applications for its RECOVERS Rental Assistance Grant Program.
CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — Camden County is currently accepting applications for the Camden County RECOVERS Rental Assistance Grant Program.
The Board of Commissioners has launched a new round of support for low income renters at risk of losing their homes or facing an eviction threat due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In total, the board expects to award approximately $15 million in assistance, using funds which were designated for the county as part of Congress’ December COVID-19 relief legislation.

The Camden County RECOVERS Rental Assistance Grant makes available up to 12 months of back rent (dating back to March 13, 2020).
Utilities which are included in rent will be treated as rent, and internet services may be considered an eligible utility if it can be demonstrated that those services were necessary for work or schooling.

While tenants will apply to take part in the program, payments will be made directly to landlords.
Applications for the program will be awarded on a first come, first served basis, and will be accepted until all available funds have been awarded.
Eligibility and Rules:
- Provide rental and utility assistance to Camden County residents for up to 12 months of back rent and utilities.
- Utilities include gas, electric, water, sewer, trash, energy costs and some internet services.
- Grant will cover outstanding rent payments for a period of up to 12 months going back to 3/13/20
- Landlord must agree to waive late fees and penalties.
- Applicants are required to prove loss of income or employment due to Covid-19; and demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability i.e. past due notices, rent notice or eviction notice etc.
- No duplication for benefits will be permitted, meaning apartments/landlords who are funded under the State’s tenant assistance program or Section 8 are not eligible.
- Grant is income based with a maximum household income of 80% Area Median Income (AMI).
