Shana's Wild Fig Returns As Private Caterer In Gloucester Twp.

About nine months after closing her physical location in Blackwood, Shana Mastranduono is back in business.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — About nine months after closing her physical location in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township, Shana Mastranduono is back in business.

The owner of Shana’s Wild Fig recently announced that she is reopening for private, catered events. It’s been a long road back for Mastranduono, who pursued her dream of opening an artisan restaurant with her children.

In September, she announced she would be closing and pursuing an off-premises catering model due to the statewide shutdowns related to the coronavirus pandemic. Read more here: Gloucester Township Woman’s Dreams Hit Hard By Coronavirus

“I was awaiting restrictions to lift for months so I could properly run my business,” Mastranduono said. “After 15 long months of the pandemic, my children were forced to consider new careers.”

Her son went to work for the U.S. Postal Service, while her daughter is considering a career with the Coast Guard or the Philadelphia Police Department.

While she realized she had to let them go, Mastanduono wanted to give it one more shot. However, weeks of posting ads to hire chefs were unfruitful.

“I could not find qualified people to cook with me in my kitchen,” Mastranduono said. “I just feel like a lot of people don’t want to come to work. A lot of my friends who have businesses are in the same position.”

So she had to change her reopening strategy, again.

“I am now a one-man band trying to rebuild from oblivion,” Mastranduono said. “I feel confident in my ability. I can work around the clock.”

While she prays to one day become a full-service restaurant again, Mastranduono is just doing what she can for her business to survive.

For a fee, residents can host a private event at Shana’s Wild Fig, 57 South Black Horse Pike, for four hours. She will design custom menus for each event.

“The restaurant will provide you and your guests with ample space,” Mastranduono said. “We can set up a cocktail area for appetizers to be self served. Your brunch / lunch or dinner will be buffet style/ family style. We can also accommodate live music.”

Residents are invited to book a DJ or reserve a Jazz performance using recommended local artists.

“With our vintage piano and lounge area, this will surely provide an extra special touch to any party,” Mastranduono said. “You’ll find photo friendly areas for your guests to capture your special time here at Shana’s Wild Fig! We also have a house baker available for any custom dessert at an additional cost.”

Mastranduono said that since she announced her new reopening strategy, she’s had a lot of inquiries. She’s been getting work, and is hoping that work remains steady.

Said Mastranduono: “I have poured my heart and soul into this, and I want to give it one more shot.”
