Triton Boys Soccer Team Falls In State Playoff Semifinal

Triton's first goal allowed in the playoffs spelled the end of the Mustangs' playoff run, according to nj.com.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Triton Regional High School boys soccer team only surrendered one goal throughout its entire playoff run this season, but one goal was all it took to knock them out of their pursuit for the state title.

Wall defeated Triton, 1-0, in overtime of the NJSIAA State Group 3 semifinals last week, according to nj.com. Nico DellaPietro scored the winning goal for Wall, which went on to lose Millburn on penalty kicks in the state final.

Triton had claimed theNJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 title with a 3-0 win over Ocean City. Max Hawk, Aiden Sommers and Martinez scored for Triton in the win.

Including the final, Triton didn’t allow a goal during its run to a South Jersey title.

Triton came in as the No. 2 seed, and opened the playoffs with a 2-0 win over No. 15 Deptford in the first round. Hawk had two goals in the win, according to nj.com.

Ryan Gale scored the game-winner for Triton in its1-0 quarterfinal win over No. 10 Cumberland Regional, according to nj.com.

Triton finished the season with a record of 18-6. They allowed 27 goals all season and pitched a total of 10 shutouts, including the playoffs. The Mustangs' offense scored 57 goals this year.
