Woman Severely Injured In Gloucester Township Fire: Police

A woman suffered severe burns to her hands and feet during a fire at a Gloucester Township apartment complex over the weekend.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A woman was hospitalized with severe burns following a fire at an apartment complex in Gloucester Township over the weekend, police said.

The fire broke out at the Cherrywood Apartment Complex, 1200 Little Gloucester Road, at about 10 p.m. Saturday night, according to Gloucester Township police.

Firefighters found the woman in a back bedroom and rescued her, police said. She was suffering from severe burns to her hands and feet, as well as smoke inhalation, police said. She was taken to Cooper Trauma Center for treatment.

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene and were able to contain the fire to the bedroom, police said. The fire was quickly extinguished.

The incident has not been deemed suspicious, but it is under investigation by the Gloucester Township Police Department Investigations Bureau and the Blackwood Fire Department Fire Marshal.

“This is a reminder to check you fire suppression systems and alert/audible alarm systems to ensure they are operational,” police said. “Smoke alarms are a key part of any fire escape plan. When there is smoke, there is fire which can spread quickly. Working smoke alarms give you early warning, so you can get outside quickly.”
