Haddonfield Baseball Advances, Haddon Falls In Diamond Classic

The Haddonfield Memorial High School baseball team won its first round game, while Haddon Township fell to the tournament's top team.

The Haddonfield Memorial High School baseball team advanced to the second round of the Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic on Monday. Haddon Township was eliminated in the first round of South Jersey’s unofficial championship tournament.

No. 8 Haddonfield defeated No. 9 Moorestown, 8-4, in the first round of the tournament on Monday, according to nj.com. However, the Bulldawgs fell behind twice early before coming back for the win.

Wyatt Atkinson and Nick Yedman were each 1-for-3 with an RBI for Moorestown, who scored two runs in the top of the second to take the lead. After the Bulldawgs tied the game in the bottom of the third, the Quakers reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth.

Haddonfield took advantage of an error-ridden fifth-inning to tack on four runs, according to The Burlington County Times. Haddonfield never relinquished its lead.

Winning pitcher Dylan Heine tossed a complete game, fanning six batters and allowing eight hits. Heine, Cameron Caruso, Ryan Lynch, Chris Mariani and Matt Stamm each produced an RBI for Haddonfield.

Haddonfield will face No. 1 Cherry Hill West in the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 11, at Deptford, 10 a.m. The winner will play in a semifinal at 4 p.m. the same day. The final is set for Wednesday night, May 15, 6:30 p.m. at Eastern.

Cherry Hill West advanced by defeating No. 16 Haddon Township, 5-1, on Monday, according to nj.com.

Haddon Township went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning, and that’s how the game stayed until the bottom of the fourth, when the Lions posted a pair of runs. Three more runs came in the fifth for Cherry Hill West.

Brian Robertson threw a complete game, striking out four batters and allowing five hits to pick up the win. Tyler Kubrak was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
