Haddonfield Crew Club's 'Gold-Mettle' Weekend

The Haddonfield Crew Club turned in an award-winning performance over the weekend in an event on the Cooper River.

The Men’s Novice8+ (George/ Schmitt/ Levin/ Beatty/ O’Brien/ Small/ Sperandio/ Reese/Hart) started Sunday by claiming its first gold medal of the year, winning its heat and coming in second overall out of 21 boats in the Cooper Cup Regatta, according to a news release.

The day ended with the Men’s JV8+ (Hurd/ Gilmartin/ Epstein/ Dye/Ruggiero/Kelley/Graves/Gangemi/Gallwitz) winning gold and beating the boat which had denied them a third place finish Saturday by less than a second. The team turned in the top time out of the 21 boats in its category. The Women’s Varsity8+ (McConville/Sparrow (Anna)/ Verzella/ Schlitt/ Knecht/ Stasi/ Ragone/ Sparrow (Allison)/Buttaro) and the Women’s JV4+ (Wilkinson/D’Anella-Mercanti/Fisher/Donohue/Kommedal) both had strong second place finishes in their respective heats and the Men’s JV4+ (Mandiwalla/Howe-Smith/Giangiulio/Frankenthaler/McCaughey) came in third in its heat. The Women’s JV8+ (Butler-Basner/Blau/Levin/Deluzio/Honigfeld/Fanelle/Coates/Marshall/Kane) staged a strong finish in their race, missing third place by only three seconds.

On Saturday, after sending only one boat to the finals in last year’s event, five  Haddonfield boats competed in the Garden State Regatta finals this year. Christian Dobush captured third place, winning a bronze in the Men’s Senior 1X event. The Women’s JV 4+ (Wilkinson/D’Anella-Mercanti /Fisher/Donohue/Kommedal) also took away a bronze medal.

HCC will compete next week in the City Championship Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
