When Haddon Avenue was originally laid out, it connected Main Street (renamed Kings Highway) and Cooper's Ferry (Camden).

In 1928, Haddon Avenue was extended to Ellis Street. By the 1940s, there were three gas stations at the intersection of Haddon Avenue and Kings Highway.
