Obituary: Richard M. Lunsford Sr.

Richard M. Lunsford Sr., 65, of Haddonfield, died Wednesday, July 18, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Richmond, Va. and spent his formative years in Wildwood Crest before settling in Haddonfield to raise his family. 

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Frances, his son Richard, Jr. (Colleen), daughter Caroline, his adored grandsons Patrick and Luke. Also survived by his brother William C. (JoAnne Guardiani) Lunsford III, sister-in-law Joan Olney, mother-in-law Doris Olney, brothers-in-law Ed and Jim Olney, niece Alice Gibbs and nephew Peter Lunsford as well as many dear personal and professional friends who offered caring support during his illness.  He was predeceased by his parents William C. and Eleanor Lunsford, Jr.

He graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in business administration and went on to receive his MBA from The American University in Washington, DC. His professional career was centered in the Philadelphia investment community.

He  fully enjoyed life and was known for his positive attitude and infectious laugh. He was a golfing member of Tavistock Country Club and served on the entertainment committee coordinating social events at the club. He was a devoted family man who spent years actively coaching and supporting his children in all their endeavors. He also was a member of the Stone Harbor Golf Club and a former member of the Union League in Philadelphia. 

Richard’s family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the , 29 Warwick Rd., Haddonfield. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday morning, 10 to 10:45 a.m.; where a celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
